We are firmly entering the “age of energy efficiency” according to an insulation and solar power expert.

Speaking at Energy Live 2013 on Thursday, Tom Paul (pictured left), Business Development Manager for Kingspan Energy said it is increasingly in property firms’ interests to make saving energy an issue.

He told the audience of energy managers and buyers: “I would strongly recommend that we are in the era of energy efficiency. Renewables can be part of that, not necessarily so, it’s massively compelling to the property sector, ‘propcos’, property investors, to actually get that agenda up and running.”

He pointed to the jet high rise of efficient buildings in the United States: “The fastest growing sector in America now are the green buildings, they’re growing at 60% compound where the rest of the industry is moderately still flat.”

Mr Paul added there is a “very compelling” story for demand side response, adding the “bigger picture” around the world is seeing countries like China work on slashing their energy use.
