A new energy market that gives more power to the individual could be emerging, the CEO and founder of Good Energy has told ELN.

In an interview at the Energy UK conference yesterday Juliet Davenport said: “We have around 35,000 customers but we also have 55,000 small renewable generators and actually we see a very different conversation and a very different business model that can potentially come out of this energy market.”

She said in the long-term she saw Good Energy “less as a supplier… more as a facilitator” connecting up “small generators to small customers”.

Mrs Davenport said although it “may feel niche today”, the large amount of solar installed at people’s houses in the last few years suggested otherwise: “I don’t know how many other power stations of 2GW have been built in the last two years but I think that’s pretty impressive.”
