Biffa has bought the commercial waste business of PHS All Clear, which manages clinical and medical waste, for £2.5 million.

Known as PHS Wastetech, it currently provides commercial waste management services across a 12,000-strong customer base.

Biffa said the deal will bring four new operating locations under its control and will allow the firm to combine more waste operations into recycling and energy-from-waste facilities.

Ian Wakelin, CEO of Biffa said: “Today’s acquisition is another step forward in our strategy to grow market share and enhance our leading industrial and commercial services. We will swiftly integrate PHS Wastetech into Biffa’s national infrastructure and excellent customer service platform, further strengthening our position as the UK’s leading integrated waste management company.”

The deal is expected to be completed by early March.
