Selfridges’ trademark yellow bags aren’t the only bright things in the shop – the department store has just installed a new set of energy efficiency lights.

The flagship Oxford Street store – which opened in London in 1909 – has energy saving lamps throughout its newly refurbished and refitted sales floors.

Shoppers trying on designer togs from Moncler, Valentino and Roberto Cavalli will be illuminated by efficient lights. The previous ones – 300 low voltage halogen lamps – have been ditched for LED (light emitting diode) bulbs.

These should fail less frequently and emit less heat according to the lighting supplier Hampshire-based company PLM which worked with bulb maker Megaman on the project.
