Power and gas prices were “flat” this morning according to the Daily Market Report.

Gemma Bruce, Client Portfolio Manager at npower’s Optimisation Desk said: “After initially opening a touch low, near curve power and gas prices have moved up slightly and are now flat on last night’s close.”

The gas system has opened in length once again, she said, adding demand continues to be below seasonal normal levels: “It’s about 19% lower than where it’s expected to be for this time of year.”

Norwegian gas flows also continued to be strong but there was a “slight” drop in Dutch flows this morning.

Gas flows have been diverted to the continent as it experiences cooler temperatures than the UK.

Ms Bruce said there was a chance more gas may come into the UK via the Vesterled pipeline to St Fergus, as pipe operator Gassco was due to start compressor testing at the Troll gas field today.

However it’s “unclear” how much gas will come to the UK when testing commences, she added.

On the power system wind generation picked up to around 6GW with nuclear generation also improving to above 7GW this morning.
