Building group Balfour Beatty is hoping to bag new power infrastructure contracts with National Grid.
It has been awarded places on two major “frameworks” – effectively a preferred supplier list from the grid operator.
The first set of projects worth up to £2.5bn is to build and refurbish overhead lines for the next four years.
A second with a maximum National Grid spend of £800m is for underground cabling in the UK.
The £2.5bn overlaps and takes over from an existing set of projects run by the Electricity Alliance East which runs until 2017.
