Rusty and a bit wonky but ready to roll … and the bike’s not bad either

Tense, nervous headache? Actually, no. Just tense and nervous as the extent of what I will be doing hits me.

Tomorrow, I go on a 50 mile bike ride. I have done that before and boy it can be exhausting but I have done it before. Therefore, no worries……well, the next day, I do another 50 miles, then another 50 on the Saturday, etc etc.

That’s right, the Energy Live News Power Ride starts tomorrow from Tate Modern and will end on 2nd July at the Drax power station. You might say from the old to the new – the old London power station now an art gallery, to the old power station at Drax but now with new biomass fuel.

The good news is I am sleeping though that has not been helped by our great awards night last Thursday, TELCA 2014 and the dads’ camping weekend I did with the kids, all those months training ruined by three big nights. Will I sleep tonight? I am not sure as the excitement rises and I steel my backside for what is to come.

There are two reasons why Energy Live News is doing this……

Firstly, we are doing it for Parkinsons UK. Sumit’s dad died of Parkinsons in 2003 after a decade long battle with the illness. He’s joining me for the first couple of days but then sadly duty calls as he heads to Brazil for a film shoot.

Yes lame excuse and funny how this shoot co-incides with a large football tournament, he says he’s working….But he will be with me in spirit and the cause is one we really believe in.

Secondly, the Energy Industry is a great industry, it just does not want to tell anyone. So we will….this is a great industry and without it, we would have no heat and light at the click of a switch; no nice shops to go shopping in; no major industry; no lit roads; you name it.

Our Power Ride then, is an adventure around energy, looking out for all things energy and going to energy destinations – power stations, wind farms, solar farms, gas tanks, pylons, chp units, everything under and including the sun!

A big thanks to all our corporate sponsors who have given so generously and if you would like to sponsor us, please go to https://www.justgiving.com/energylivenewspowerride/.

I am hoping to drop a line each day and you may even get a video or two, so please keep an eye out on Energy Live News and check out our special power ride page. Remember you can join us at any time along the route.
