The first two turbines have been installed at a 219MW wind farm located off the coast of Humberside.

E.ON’s Humber Gateway wind project will include 73 turbines and will generate enough electricity to power up to 150,000 homes.

A new centre in Grimsby that will support the ongoing operation and maintenance of the offshore wind farm has also been officially opened.

It is made up of office space, equipment storage and vessel mooring, which will be used by staff operating and maintaining the wind farm.

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles said: “I’m delighted to open the latest addition to E.ON’s state-of the art renewables operation which is bringing new jobs, revenue and expertise to the biggest Enterprise Zone in the country.”

The wind farm is expected to be completed next year.
