IKEA has invested in a Scottish company that specialises in energy efficient LED lighting technologies.

The retail giant’s venture capital arm IKEA GreenTech said it has struck a deal with Design LED Products, which uses energy efficiency “light tiles” – i.e. LEDs embedded into clear films.

The investment will help the Scottish firm expand its business and increase its offer of products “that can be used in lighting designs for the home”.

Christian Ehrenborg, Managing Director at IKEA GreenTech said: “This technology opens up fantastic possibilities for innovative designs using energy efficient LEDs. The partnership is a clear strategic fit for IKEA and our goal to make living sustainably affordable and attractive for millions of people.”

IKEA aims to switch its entire lighting range to LEDs by September next year.
