A recycling company in Middlesbrough has been fined £14,400 for operating a waste facility without an environmental permit.

It follows the Environment Agency’s investigation into a South Bank site known as the Junction Works in 2012.

S B Recycling was warned no waste could be brought to the site without a valid permit but it deposited waste there regardless.

The company admitted to a charge of operating the waste site without the required permit at Teesside Magistrates Court.

Jonathan O’Neill, Environment Officer at the Environment Agency said: “S B Recycling operated a waste facility with a blatant disregard for the environmental permits that are required by law.

“Companies that attempt to dodge environmental laws place the local environment at risk of pollution and they undermine legitimate businesses.”
