The head of energy firm British Gas’s residential arm will take over as temporary boss of British Gas when Managing Director Chris Weston steps down in December.

Ian Peters will hold the managing director post on an “interim basis while a permanent replacement is sought”, parent company Centrica said today.

It’s one of a handful of changes which sees a management reshuffle across key roles including the business energy and repairs branches.

Stephen Beynon, current MD of British Gas Business will move over to head up British Gas Residential Energy.

Chief Operations Officer Stuart Rolland – who has responsibility for the firm’s insulation and smart meter programmes – will take over from Beynon at BGB.

Meanwhile Matthew Bateman, currently Managing Director of British Gas Service & Repair, will pick up where Ian Peters left off at British Gas Residential Services.

Centrica Chairman Rick Haythornthwaite said Peters has “deep industry knowledge and experience”, adding: “[He] is well placed to assume this role on a transitional basis, as we seek a permanent replacement under Iain Conn’s new leadership.”

Earlier this year it was revealed Sam Laidlaw leaves as Centrica Chief Executive, with his replacement Iain Conn, poached from oil giant BP, joining the company on 1 January 2015.
