British Gas Business has become the first company in the UK to sign the European Code of Energy Performance Contracts (EPC).

An EPC is a partnership between a supplier and its customers that allows them to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings and facilities. The contract guarantees the energy saving measures the customers implement will generate sufficient savings to pay for the project.

The code was launched in September this year to support EPC energy services and transparency of the EU energy service markets.

British Gas Business joins more than 40 other organisations throughout Europe who have signed up to the code so far.

The EPC is a voluntary commitment and not legally binding.

Patrick Bevan, Head of Energy Performance at British Gas Business said: “By signing this Code of Conduct we hope to make a clear statement that all of our Energy Performance Contracts are aligned with the values and philosophies of the code and in particular the core values of efficiency, professionalism and transparency.

“We urge others to sign up and help us to create a responsible and sustainable market in the UK.”
