Sixteen of the UK’s “cleanest” and coolest tech start-ups are off to San Francisco on Saturday (17 January) to connect and network with global investors in an effort to expand their business to the US.

The Clean and Cool Mission 2015 gives entrepreneurs a chance of bagging some hefty investment across the pond.

Companies are showcasing gadgets such as a “plug and play” solar power system which lets people charge mobile phones or LED lights. The company BBOXX made them for rural African communities and they’re purchased through monthly payment plans.

Another bright idea is a solar panel sheet that can be rolled up to transport more easily, which makers at Renovagen claim is capable of generating ten times more power than other options.
