The European Investment Bank (EIB) has committed €40 million (£31m) to a French renewable energy fund.

It is managed by Natixis Asset Management subsidiary Mirova, which has financed 700MW of new wind and solar projects in France and Sweden so far.

The EIB hopes the investment will help attract other investors in the renewable energy sector in France and Europe.

Philippe de Fontaine Vive, EIB Vice-President said: “Our investment should be seen as part of a sustainable development approach aimed at reducing carbon emissions.”
