Switching to renewable sources of energy could benefit companies said home furnishing giant IKEA.

At an energy summit in Dubai yesterday, IKEA Group pledged to use power exclusively from renewable energy sources by 2020.

The ambition is part of The Climate Group initiative called RE100 that supports major companies who are committed to 100% renewable power within a specified timeline.

Steve Howard, Chief Sustainability Officer of IKEA Group said: “Investing in renewable energy is good for business, the economy and the planet.

“That’s why we’ve committed to match 100% of our energy use with our own renewable energy generation by 2020 and have allocated EUR 1.5 billion to take us closer to this goal.”

Other companies who are joining the initiative include Nestlé, Philips and BT Group.
