Independent green energy company Ecotricity has announced it will reduce gas bills by 6.1%.

The price cut, which will come into effect from 1st May, will benefit all customers existing and new.

They will see savings of around £42 a year, with the average dual fuel bill at £1,189.

The energy supplier said it expects to “pass on more savings more quickly later in 2015” as wholesale prices are predicted to fall even further.

Founder Dale Vince said: “At Ecotricity, we’ve been watching the recent drop in wholesale gas prices and have been keen to pass on a price cut to our customers as soon as we could.

“We have just one gas tariff and one price for new and existing customers – so, uniquely in the energy industry, this price cut is for everyone.”

So far, Big Six suppliers E.ON, British Gas and ScottishPower have announced price cuts for their customers.

Consumers ranked Ecotricity the best supplier for customer satisfaction in the latest Which? league table.
