A new taskforce set up by the Scottish Government to support jobs in the energy industry met for the first time yesterday.
The Energy Jobs Taskforce discussed the current situation in the oil and gas industry and the opportunities for hundreds of people facing redundancy following the impact of oil prices.
The Scottish Government said it is working to put in place “an effective way” to match those facing redundancy with opportunities elsewhere.
Lena Wilson, Chair of the Taskforce said: “Whilst there’s recognition that the industry both at home and internationally has major challenges ahead, the group has absolute confidence in the strength and resilience of the sector and is acutely aware of the future opportunities this industry will provide.
“We have a helpline available for those facing redundancy, will be launching an online presence and will be delivering a large employability event Aberdeen in the near future.”
BP, Taqa, AMEC and Oil and Gas UK are some of confirmed members of the Taskforce, which will meet monthly, with the next meeting scheduled for 26th February.
