The warmer temperatures today has seen the gas and power markets open slightly flat this morning.

That’s according to the daily market report by Steven Walker, Client Portfolio Manager on the npower Optimisation desk.

The analyst said: “Demand has started to drop with gas pegged at 356 million cubic metres (mcm) today. UK peak power demand has also fallen by around 600 megawatts.”

French interconnector imports are back up to one gigawatt (GW) this morning as France also begins to warm and margins improve towards 7GW added the analyst.

The analyst said: “French morning peak margins has been below 5GW in the earlier part of the week as France experienced very cold temperatures.”
