Former npower boss Volker Beckers has joined the board of the UK’s nuclear authority responsible for overseeing the clean-up and decommissioning of the nation’s nuclear sites.

He is one of four new non-executive directors to be appointed to the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) Board.

The other three are Evelyn Dickey, Human Resources Director at water firm Severn Trent, Janet Ashdown, non-executive director at SEG – a supplier of insulation and roofing – and Rob Holden, who has held the position of non-executive director at waste management firm Viridor since 2012.

They will share best practice and “ensure the NDA learns from the successes and failures of comparable organisations” as well as provide support and challenge on the implementation of the NDA’s ‘Strategy and Business Plan’, according to DECC.

Energy Secretary Ed Davey said: “They bring collective experience of leading major businesses, managing complex commercial projects and transformational change as well as programme assurance. This will prove invaluable as the NDA works to embed its new commercial model at Sellafield and continue to make strong progress on its decommissioning mission across the estate.”

Ms Dickey and Mr Beckers will start their role now while Ms Ashdown and Mr Holden will start in June.

Non-Executive members typically serve a term of three years and are appointed to replace outgoing or departed board members.
