A 70MW wind farm in the Highlands has been given the go-ahead by the Scottish Government.

NBW Wind Energy plans to install 23 turbines at Corriegarth Wind Farm, which is expected to power around 33,000 homes.

It will replace the existing planning permission granted by Highland Council for a 50MW wind farm on the same site.

The developer estimates the project will create more than 200 jobs during the construction phase and provide around £100,000 a year to support local projects.

Scottish Energy Minister Fergus Ewing said: “The Scottish planning policy is clear the design and location of renewables projects should reflect the scale and character of the landscape as well as being considered environmentally acceptable.”
