A Japanese company is investing in an energy storage project in Ohio, US.

Sumitomo Corporation will own the 6MW Willey Battery Storage facility, which will be built by Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES).

It is Sumitomo’s first investment in a large-scale stand-alone battery storage facility in the US.

Construction is expected to begin this month and finished by the end of next year.

RES has developed more than 9GW of renewable energy capacity worldwide, with the latest being its sixth energy storage project.
