Global investors who manage $24 trillion (£15.6tn) in assets have launched an online platform to fight climate change.

The initiative called ‘Investors Platform for Climate Actions’ involves more than 360 investors from five continents.

They will show what actions they have taken to tackle climate change. The platform will focus on three different areas such as carbon footprint, fossil fuels and investment in low carbon technologies.

They aim to encourage further initiatives and an ambitious global climate deal in Paris in December.

Christiana Figueres, Executive Secretary of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change said: “It is very encouraging to see key investor groups coordinate efforts and establish a joint platform for investor action. Ahead of the UN climate change conference in Paris, cities, regions, companies and investors must continue to increase their active participation in the global efforts toward a low emission, highly resilient world.”

She added around $90 (£57.9tn) trillion is likely to be invested in infrastructure worldwide in the next 15 years.
