A tornado which hit northwestern Texas yesterday has damaged a gas drilling rig and reportedly led to serious injuries.

The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado hit at 5.20pm local time and warned people to take shelter.

According to local media, three people were taken to hospital, with two of those reported to be in critical condition.

The tornado comes after heavy rainfall in other parts of the state earlier in the week, which is said to have killed a number of people.
