The first turbines at SSE’s 72MW wind project in the far north of Scotland have generated first power.

The 35-turbine Strathy North wind farm is due to become fully operational at the end of 2015.

The project has so far delivered more than £3 million worth of contracts across the North Sutherland and Caithness area.

A seven-figure contract was also placed with the local Kirkton quarry in Melvich for the production and supply of concrete for the site.

SSE project manager Rod Crawford said: “Strathy North has a superb wind resource and promises to be an excellent site.”
