India is to build an internal transmission energy system worth £1 billion.

The government will invest 40% of the total amount in the project, which aims to facilitate the transmission of renewable power through seven states.

It will link the states of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

These regions are rich in renewable resources and a number of large capacity green projects have been planned there, stated the Indian Government.

The link is expected to be 7,800 kilometers long and the project will include 48 grid sub-stations of different voltage levels.

The project is scheduled to be completed within a period of three or five years.
