A £3.5 million energy centre which will provide low carbon heating is to be built in London.

Vital Energi will install a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) plant at the 28-storey Merano Residences development, which will be situated on the Albert Embankment.

The underground system will take the waste heat created during electricity generation and use it to provide heating, hot water and cooling for businesses and residents at the site.

It is expected to “significantly lower” carbon emissions compared to traditional heating systems.

Rob Callaghan, Regional Director said: “Merano Residences will be a fantastic addition to the Nine Elms neighbourhood and because it is ‘district heating ready’ it also has the opportunity to connect to what could become one of London’s major heat networks, which will drive down emissions even further.”

The development will include apartments as well as offices and a four-storey public space.
