Construction has started on a 122MW solar power project in Chile.

It is located around 30km east of Taltal in the Atacama Desert and follows the completion of around $205 million (£133m) in project financing.

Conejo Solar has a 22-year power purchase agreement with mining company Minera Los Pelambres, an affiliate of Antofagasta Minerals, for around 65% of its output.

It will be connected to the Sistema Interconnectado Central (SIC) transmission system.

Pattern Development, which is building the project, expects it to be completed next summer.
