Brazil has awarded 669MW worth of energy contracts as part of an auction.

A total of 29 projects will receive an investment of around R$2.5 billion (£0.42bn).

They are expected to meet the energy demand to supply 28 electricity distributors by 2018.

Wind projects were awarded the biggest investment for 538.8MW of capacity.

Hydropower projects with a capacity of 66.2MW and 64.5MW of biomass and gas projects will also be installed.

The plants will be located across the country.
