The gas system is oversupplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 10mcm long.

Tim Carter from npower’s optimisation desk said demand is “well above seasonal normal levels today”.

He added “this is driven by strong IUK [Interconnector] exports”, which are currently at more than 43mcm.

He went on: “Storage injections are at 25mcm with 15mcm from Rough pumping in as much as possible before the maintenance shutdown on Thursday.

“CCGT demand and domestic demand are also both elevated but supply is ample to cover these increased levels.”

Norwegian pipeline Langeled is flowing at more than 70mcm today. LNG supply is currently nominated at 35mcm.

UK power margins are more than 10GW today with wind generating in line with latest forecasts at more than 1.6GW and French and Dutch interconnectors at full import capacity.

Oil prices increased during the weekend and are currently trading just at $52 a barrel (£34/Bbl).
