The UK gas system is 20mcm undersupplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

Demand is around 17% above seasonal normal levels due to temperatures dropping below average.

Langeled flows are at 29mcm.

An “unplanned” outage at the Asgard gas field could have an impact of 12mcm on the system in the next two to three days, according to Sarah Astley from npower’s optimisation desk.

She added: “South Hook flows are also steady at 37mcm and with two tankers due to dock in the UK this week, we should see these flows remain around this level for the rest of the week.”

In Europe, a deal to supply gas to Ukraine during the winter is expected to be agreed.

Ms Astley said: “Elsewhere, Ukraine ceasefire talks are said to have made significant progress. The current ceasefire, which has held for two weeks, has been reaffirmed. A deal is also said to be close which will secure gas supplies to the Ukraine over the winter and also ensure the stable transit of gas through Ukraine to Europe.”

Peak margin in the power system is below 9GW.

Wind is generating at 1.2GW but forecast to reach 3GW tonight.

Oil is currently trading at $47.6 per barrel.
