The company that will own and operate the offshore transmission link to a 219MW wind farm has been revealed.

Balfour Beatty Equitix Consortium, which includes Balfour Beatty Investments and Equitix Limited, was selected by Ofgem through a competitive process.

The Humber Gateway offshore wind farm, located around eight kilometres off the coast of East Yorkshire, includes 73 turbines.

The estimated value of the transmission assets is £173.3 million, according to Ofgem.

It added: “The tender exercise saw the lowest bids to date as a proportion of asset value, demonstrating the value of using competition to drive down the costs of the networks for connecting offshore wind.”

Earlier in June, E.ON announced the wind farm has started generating electricity – two months ahead of schedule.
