The gas system has opened undersupplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.
The linepack is currently forecast to close 30mcm short.
Norwegian flows through the Langeled pipeline have fallen to 41mcm while exports through the UK’s Interconnector are healthy at more than 34mcm as a result of colder temperatures.
Gemma Bruce from npower’s optimisation desk said: “Gas demand continues to be supported above seasonal average levels as gas-fired generation continues to dominate the stack with the strong exports to the continent also contributing.”
Power margins are tight with the peak currently forecast at just 7.5GW this afternoon. Wind generation has fallen to 500MW this morning.
The French interconnector continues to be capped at 1500MW as a result of maintenance.
The price of oil is currently trading at $50 a barrel (£32/Bbl).
The pound is currently trading at €1.3618.
