The gas system has opened “roughly balanced”, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s due to demand being “more in line with seasonal average despite strong exports to the continent”, said Gemma Bruce from npower’s optimisation desk.

The UK’s Interconnector is currently flowing 44mcm to Belgium but is nominated much lower at 26mcm.

Ms Bruce added: “Norwegian flows continue to be impacted by an outage at Skarv [gas field] which is now expected to return to full operation on Friday with Langeled currently flowing at just 20mcm.” LNG send out remains healthy at 53mcm.

Wind generation is healthy today at more than 5GW. CCGT’s contribution is down to just 29%, followed by coal generation at 24%.

The French interconnector capacity continues to be reduced with current imports at 1,300MW while the Dutch interconnector continues to flow at full capacity in the direction of the UK.

Oil is currently trading at $48.30 a barrel (£31.25/Bbl).
