The gas system is oversupplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close around 13mcm long.

Tim Carter from npower’s optimisation desk said: “Total demand is still around 8% above seasonal normal levels but that is mainly due to continued healthy exports through the interconnectors to Europe.”

There are healthy flows through the Norwegian Langeled pipeline at 54mcm this morning as the unplanned maintenance on the gas field Skarv has now been resolved.

There are also good levels of supply from the continental shelf and LNG send-out will continue at more than 50mcm.

Temperatures for the next 10 days are expected to pick up so demand is expected to remain suppressed.

Wind generation is more than 3GW this morning. Mr Carter went on: “Forecasts suggest some volatility over the few weeks but should average out to around this level but peaking around 4.5GW some days.”

The pound is currently trading at €1.39 this morning.

Oil remains trading at around $48 a barrel (£31/Bbl).
