The UK gas system has opened 18mcm long today, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s because some Norwegian gas field outages have ended.

Alex Guiot from npower’s optimisation desk said: “The one at Kvitebjørn is resolved but the one at Asgard continues with a 10.5mcm restriction.”

LNG flows from South Hook dropped to zero this morning due to an unexpected outage.

On the power system wind is generating 3.2GW and is expected to reach more than 6GW this afternoon.

Mr Guiot added: “As a result CCGT’s stake decreased from the levels seen recently providing 32% of the stack against 42% yesterday.”

Solar energy is forecast at 2.3GW.

The Dutch interconnector is at full capacity while the French has fallen to 1.5GW.

Brent oil is trading above $48 (£31.2) per barrel.

Mr Guiot added: “Production in Brazil has fallen by as much as 13% because of a strike at the state controlled Petroleo Brasileiro. From one side, this keeps on showing that a 50% drop in oil prices doesn’t come without cost for worldwide producers but on the other one, it proves how limited, short-lived and predictable the impact on crude’s quotes can be, now that the world is deemed as more than well supplied.”
