The UK gas system has opened long this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s because the Norwegian outages at Troll have ended.

Langeled flows are at 55mcm.

Alex Guiot from npower’s Optimisation Desk said: “The length of the system is captured this morning by storage sites with Holford injecting 14mcm. Temperatures are expected to drop much below seasonal normal levels across Europe from November 22nd which is helping prompt prices to firm, despite other bearish fundamentals.”

On the power side, peak margins are above 11GW due to higher wind generation which is expected to reach more than 5GW this afternoon.

Solar energy is forecast to generate above 2.1GW.

The Dutch interconnector is at full capacity whilst the French one is at 1.5GW.

Brent oil is currently trading at $44.75 per barrel (£29.6/Bbl) after it fell below $40/Bbl (£26.4) yesterday.

Mr Guiot added: “The steep drop yesterday was the result of France bombing Syria targets in response to Paris attack, which weakened the Euro.”
