UK power and gas prices have opened comfortable this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

On the gas system, the linepack is forecast to close 12mcm long.

Gemma Bruce from npower’s Optimisation Desk said: “Demand remains below seasonal average subdued by the mild weather with UK gas demand reaching its lowest seasonal level in at least 13 years as households turn their heating off.”

Norwegian flows are nominated at 95mcm/day and BBL flows at 18mcm.

Exports from the IUK are nominated at 29mcm.

On the power system, peak margins are forecast at 13GW.

The French and Dutch interconnectors are importing at full capacity.

Wind is generating 4.5GW.

Ms Bruce added: “Expectations for wind generation are to ramp up to 7GW by this evening which may see some of the less efficient power and gas units priced out of the power stack.”

Nuclear generation is still reduced due to unplanned outages at Heysham 1 and Hartlepool 2 earlier this week.

Oil continues trading at around $37 (£24.4) per barrel.
