The UK gas system has opened “a touch” undersupplied this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

The linepack is forecast to close 2mcm short.

Langeled flows are at 58mcm and the Dutch BBL (Balgzand Bacton Line) at 19mcm.

LNG is flowing at 25mcm and some tankers are expected to arrive during the Christmas season.

Ben Spry from npower’s Optimisation Desk said: “The shortness in the system is coming from a slightly higher forecasted demand of around 248mcm although this is still below average for this time of year.

“The demand has increased following a drop in temperatures. Today we will see highs of 9°C still 4°C  above seasonal normals but a drop off from yesterday.”

On the power system, peak margins are at 15GW.

Mr Spry added: “CCGT and nuclear are currently making up the majority of the generation stack at around 25% each.”

Wind is generating 5GW and is expected to increase to 7GW.

Oil is trading at $36.56 (£24.12) per barrel.
