The Department of Energy and Climate Change has appointed a new board member to the Coal Authority.

Gemma Pearce will be a Non-Executive member for the next three years from April, replacing the outgoing Stephen Redmond.

She will be part of a leadership team which manages the licensing of coal mining operations as well as the effects of past coal mining.

That includes subsidence damage claims which are not the responsibility of licensed coal mine operators.

Ms Pearce is currently Director of Jelly Products and has experience in the public sector as Chief Executive of the Mental Health.
