The UK power system has opened comfortable, according to npower’s daily market report.

The peak margin is at 12GW.

Wind is generating 3GW but is expected to increase to 7GW this afternnon.

The gas system is 18mcm oversupplied as demand forecasts have dropped compared to yesterday.

Alex Guiot from the Optimisation Desk said: “Domestic demand and CCGT demand are both lower leaving total demand at just 286mcm versus 317mcm yesterday.”

As a result of lower demand, the Holford storage and St Fergus gas terminal are nominating at 5mcm.

Flows from Holland through the Balgzand Bacton Line (BBL) pipeline have decreased to 6mcm.

Mr Guiot added: “LNG flows are in line with levels seen through the week and can expect to remain that way for some weeks as there are at least another three tankers due before the end of the month.”

Brent oil is trading at $34.4/bbl (£23.4/bbl).

Mr Guiot went on: “Oil market gains through yesterday have eased after Energy International Administration’s data yesterday afternoon showed US crude inventories advanced to an 86-year high.”
