The UK gas system has opened 8mcm undersupplied, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s because supply dropped as demand is above seasonal normal levels.

Flows from Norway through the Langeled pipeline have been reduced to more than 51mcm.

Tim Carter from the Optimisation Desk said: “Rough withdrawals are down to 37mcm and South Hook LNG sendout is just 36mcm.”

On the power system, the peak margin is more than 11GW.

Wind is generating 3GW and is expected to reach 5GW surpressing CCGT demand.

Mr Carter added: “Oil prices remain firm today with many market commentators feeling a bottom may have been found and continuing talks between Russia and OPEC nations provides hope of addressing the current oversupply despite no significant reductions in supply or demand increases and swelling worldwide inventories.”

Brent oil is trading above $35 per barrel (£23.8/bbl).
