EDF is expected to announce its final investment decision on the Hinkley Point nuclear power plant in May.

That’s according to Emmanuel Macron French Minister of the Economy, Industry and the Digital Sector.

Mr Macron said the decision will be taken “by early May”.

The news comes as UK boss of the company Vicent de Rivaz is currently giving evidence before MPs on the Energy and Climate Change Select Committee to answer questions about the nuclear project.

Mr de Rivaz said he can’t give a precise date but insisted the strike price for the project is “fair and balanced”.

The Hinkley project costs £18 billion and the government committed to invest £2 billion whilst China is funding £6 billion.

Earlier this month EDF’s finance director Thomas Piquemal resigned over concerns Hinkley could threaten the firm’s financial position while the project’s director did the same in February.
