The UK gas system is balanced this morning, according to npower’s daily market report.

Sam Hill from the Optimisation Desk said: “This is despite temperatures which look set to drop below seasonal normal levels over the weekend.”

The linepack is forecast to close 5mcm short.

Mr Hill added: “The lengthening of the UK gas system comes as we see Norwegian flows from Langeled improve with the cuts to Kollsnes reducing by 20mcm. Langeled is flowing at just over 50mcm.”

Flows from the Netherlands through the BBL pipeline are at 22mcm.

South Hook LNG send-out is at 34mcm and Aldborough is nominating only around 1mcm.

On the power system the peak margin is forecast to be below 12GW.

Coal generation has picked up, making up for the shortfall in wind production which is under 1GW.

CCGT is generating 21GW, providing 54% of the power mix.

Brent oil is currently trading at $44/bbl (£30/bbl).
