The Scottish Government has provided £1.5 million of funding to offshore wind farm companies.

The sector has been identified as a key area for growth by the renewables industry and funding will aim to increase innovation, reduce costs and encourage further investment.

The companies will be funded through the Carbon Trust’s Offshore Wind Accelerator (OWA), which has previously supported floating wind farm and deep-water wind farm technologies.

Energy Minister Paul Wheelhouse said: “Innovation in renewables also continues to contribute to the excellent progress we are making on reducing greenhouse gas emissions after the recent announcement that Scotland has exceeded our 2020 target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 42% six years early.”
