The UK gas system, is forecast to be below 9mcm short, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s due to an unexpected outage at the Norwegian Heimdal plant.

Flows through the Langeled pipeline are at 12mcm and those via the UK Interconnector are at 57mcm.

An LNG tanker is expected to arrive in the UK tomorrow.

Sam Hill from the Optimisation Desk said: “On Friday Centrica announced the prolonged ceasing of injections. This was expected to end at the start of August, however now looks likely to continue until March next year. It saw winter 16 contracts push up by up to £3 on Friday as more strain is put on the UK’s gas supply.”

On the power system, the peak margin is expected below 12GW.

Wind is generating at around 1GW and nuclear is producing more than 8GW, providing 26% of the mix.

Gas fired power generation is the main contributor at 16GW making up 50% of the stack while both the French and Dutch interconnectors are importing at full capacity.”

Mr Hill added: “Over the weekend there have been some disruptions to oil through Turkey, amid the quelled coup oil tankers that would normally be loading and unloading in Turkey sailed uninterrupted into the nations waters, away from the troubles. This has kept oil prices around the $48/bbl mark.”
