The UK gas system is 14mcm long, according to npower’s daily market report.
That’s due to strong flows from the Holford storage and from North Sea facilities as well as lower demand from Local Distribution Zones.
On the power system, demand is up to 45GW.
Wind is generating 2.5GW and is expected to reach 5.6GW later in the week.
Solar generation is forecast below 2GW today and is set to rise during week.
Rodney Johnson from the Optimisation Desk said: “Heysham 1-1 [nuclear power plant] is now in planned maintenance for offload power refuelling until start of November. Though surplus is healthy today, it is forecast to be low in the middle of the week as wind drops off.”
The French interconnector is currently exporting at 1.2GW into France though it is set to reverse importing 2GW into the UK later today.
Brent oil is currently trading at $51.96 (£42.08/bbl).
Mr Johnson said: “Brent is up on Friday’s levels but fell earlier as Iraq requested to be exempted from OPEC production cut, though prices have found strength in early trading this morning.”
The pound is valued at €1.12.
