The UK gas system is long as demand is still below seasonal normal levels, according to npower’s daily market report.

Gemma Bruce from the Optimisation Desk said: “Forecasts for later in the week show temperatures dropping and therefore we are likely to see an increase in gas demand going forward.”

Flows from Norway via the Langeled pipeline are at 59mcm and those via the BBL (Balgzand Bacton Line) are at 16mcm.

On the power system, the peak margin is forecast at 6.6GW.

Ms Bruce added: “This is largely as a result of very low wind generation and the French interconnector being on export mode for the majority of the day.”

However, wind generation is expected to increase to above 4GW tomorrow.

Brent oil is currently trading at $50/bbl (£41/bbl) as OPEC members failed to reach an agreement on trimming output in Vienna last week.
