The UK gas system is expected to close 15mcm long, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s due to healthy flows from the Hornsea storage.

Nicholas Morgan from the Optimisation Desk said: “With high gas prices, there is healthy competition in the gas market to suggest the within day and day ahead gas markets will remain comfortable throughout this week.”

The UK Interconnector is importing from Belgium for the first time since June this year.

On the power system, the peak margin is at 9GW.

Wind is generating 3GW but is expected to drop to 1GW later today.

Mr Morgan added: “The Dutch interconnector is exporting to the UK at their capacity levels but the UK is now exporting to France through the French interconnector at their capacity levels.”

Brent oil is trading at $47.42/bbl (£37.9/bbl).
