UK’s power demand will be softer today reaching 50GW, according to npower’s daily market report.

That’s because temperatures are around three degrees above seasonal normal levels today and are also expected to stay warm until Friday.

Wind generation is forecast to peak 5GW later today while solar will reach 1.5GW.

Rodney Johnson, from the optimisation Desk said: “The French interconnector is set to flow into France over the whole day peaking at full 2GW capacity at several points though reduced to around 360MW into France for the UK evening peak.”

On the gas system, the linepack is forecast to close 19mcm long.

Brent oil is currently trading at $44.55/bbl (£35.19/bbl).

Mr Johnson said: “Brent has eased over the weekend as OPEC figures showed record output for last month and concerns of oversupply weigh.”
