Ecotricity has been named one of the UK’s 10 most disruptive companies.

It has been awarded a place on the Virgin Media Business Disruptor 10 list, which recognises companies for having a business model, product or service that disrupts traditional market structures.

This can be done by creating a new market, transforming an existing market or rapidly taking market share from competitors.

According to the list, Ecotricity, a green energy supplier, has 300 EV charging points at petrol stations and is a pioneer of carbon-neutral ‘green gas’ production.

It has also created an ‘ecobond’, which allows customers to invest in and benefit financially from the firm’s work.

The company mission is to “change the way electricity is made and used in Britain”.

The report adds the firm’s unique business model uses customer’s energy bills to directly fund new green energy generation.

Dale Vince, Founder of Ecotricity, said: “It’s fun to be named on this new list of disruptive companies – we don’t mind wearing that badge. It’s actually quite exceptional, since we’ve been doing this for twenty years, to still be considered disruptive.

“It’s our independence that’s enabled this – having no shareholders means we’re free to pursue our mission to build a Green Britain in any way we think is right.”
